Brookside

Built in the early 1920s this Spanish Mediterranean was ready for a new family and a refresh. The kitchens and bathrooms were original to the house when we entered the picture. My favorite “before” feature? The corner dishwasher from perhaps the 1940’s that resembled something closer to a top loading washing machine!

We always look to the client and the house to steer us in a creative direction. Here, it was clear that color was not to be shied away from and bold design features would be welcomed. Ensuring that this home was truly designed for a busy and energetic young family, quite a bit of millwork was built for this project. The built-in custom cabinets not only looks beautiful and original to the home, but also provides much needed closed storage. And what to do with an awkward overly wide closet? Split the difference and create a butler’s pantry on one side and a much needed powder room on the other side.

This project remains one of our favorites as it strikes the ideal balance of old and new.
